Lyn See is the Chief Operating Officer of Nuvo Health, a Sydney based medical centre group founded by Dr Ryan Vo and Dr Jonathan Phan. The group currently operates 10 multidisciplinary GP family medical centres and 1 specialist clinic.
Nuvo Health was formed 10 years ago and offers both general practice and allied health services including on-site pathology, physiotherapy, dietetics, psychology and podiatry.
It operates on the key principles of being innovative and accessible to all patients.
With over 80 employees and an ambitious plan to grow through acquisition and establishing brand new practices, Nuvo Health was challenged by ensuring the entire organisation remained focused on the same vision.
Lyn joined Nuvo Health three years ago.
She brought with her a detailed understanding of the Scaling Up framework (having applied Scaling Up in her past life).
Lyn introduced the founders of Nuvo Health to Anna Samios earlier this year.
Lyn was keen to instil greater discipline in the business.
One of the biggest challenges faced by Nuvo Health involved its wide geographic footprint, making it challenging to keep everyone focussed and moving in the right direction.
Lyn shares, “With so many people in the organisation across so many locations, it’s difficult to keep everyone focussed on the same things. That opens the doors for poor decision making”.
Communication rhythm was one of Lyn’s big rocks.
Bringing Anna on board allowed Nuvo Health to clarify exactly where it saw itself in ten years. Anna helped Nuvo Health articulate its BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal) and helped Nuvo Health develop a strategy that would make sure it got there.
Lyn was particularly drawn to the effective simplicity of the One Page Strategic Plan.
With a clear direction, Lyn turned her mind to establishing the right communication rhythm. Anna instigated the huddle as part of the organisation’s daily ritual. Today, everyone in the business participates in a morning huddle with their respective teams.
The organisation remains on point and shares relevant information every day to ensure everyone knows what the big numbers are and how Nuvo Health is tracking.
“We’ve been incredibly impressed with how quickly Anna has established rapport with us. She understands our business and her approach has really helped move us in the right direction. The alignment across the organisation has improved the culture at Nuvo Health.
For Lyn, the single biggest impact came from the People decision. As Nuvo Health started to change, the “C Players” decided they didn’t belong.
“Today, everyone in the organisation can see the transformation we’ve undertaken.
Everyone is encouraged to look forward and can really sense how the business is improving”.
Over the next three to five years, Nuvo Health will be focused on reaching operational excellence and thinking outside the box to develop the “special sauce” it needs to accelerate its growth.
Had Nuvo Health not engaged Anna and the Scaling Up framework, the business would not be in the position it’s in today.
